Three types of associate degrees are:

  • The Associate of Arts (A.A)

  • Associate of Science (A.S.)

  • Associate of Applied Science (A.S.S)

What is an A.A. Degree?

An Associate of Arts, or A.A. Degree, is a two-year undergraduate degree program that is typically offered by a junior, technical, or community college. An Associate of Arts (AA) requires the completion of 60 credit hours and provides students a general liberal arts education.

What is an A.S. Degree?

Associates of Science, the A.S. degree mainly focuses on liberal arts, with topics that include, math, social sciences, English and history.

What is an A.A.S Degree?

Associates of Applied Science the A.A.S. stands for Associates in Applied Science. A.A.S., are career-targeted vocational degrees, and do not necessarily provide students with the required coursework to earn a bachelor’s degree.
